Development Associate - Grant Writer (Part-Time, 20 hours per week)

 

SUMMARY:  This is a professional non-supervisory fundraising position within the department of Fund Development under general supervision of the Chief Development Officer through the Director of Fund Development.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Researches, identifies, develops and writes grant proposals, with special emphasis on local, state and federal government grants.

 

Handles all relationship matters with potential grant funders, including prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, with special attention to any and all grant reporting.

 

Generates revenues for Chapter programs and services through timely submission of well researched, written and documented  grant/fundraising proposals

 

Writes reports to government, corporate, foundations and other funders.

 

Acts as a liaison with program staff.

 

Identifies funding opportunities and new program areas to match chapter priorities, using research tools.

 

Accept special projects and assignments as delegated, especially in times of local disaster.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Works directly with and reports to the Director of Fund Development and Chief Development Officer.

Works with other members of the Financial Development staff, both paid and volunteer.

Deals broadly with the public both in person and on the telephone.

Due to the emergency character of the Red Cross disaster responsibilities, there are times when all employees are expected to work other than their regularly scheduled hours until a normal schedule can be established. Depending upon the nature and scope of the disaster, employees may be required to perform duties separate and apart from their normal routine or to attend National assignments.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or two to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Drivers License and good driving record.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to provide own transportation.

Ability to provide a high level of customer service to internal and external customers.
