The Business Analyst II is a business specialist and technology generalist. They are responsible for aligning technology solutions with business strategies working principally with mid- to senior management in business units.

 

Those occupying this position partner with functional groups within the IT organization to communicate and clarify business needs, contribute to the development of long-range system plans and ensure that products and services are aligned with business needs.

They are responsible for the evaluation of business requirements for enterprise business application integration and delivering new or modified software systems enhancements and/or integration solutions.  They conduct business process analysis, needs assessments, cost/benefit and risk analysis; broker IT services and communicate trends and requirements to and from customers and IT as well as monitor and communicate the status of open requests.

The Business Analyst II may also perform in the roles of project manager and quality assurance manager for software development and deployment efforts.

This role is challenged with developing and maintaining credibility and effective working relations with both the customer management and IT personnel in a way that demonstrates an understanding of business problems, as well as IT and business strategies, issues and priorities. Responsibilities:

·         Participate in strategic planning for business units

·         Analyze and monitor operational activities of business units looking for opportunities to apply technological assistance or solutions

·         Participate in systems requirements definition, testing, training, implementation, and support

·         Facilitate communication between the business and IT.

·         Solicit client requirements through interviews, workshops, and/or existing system documentation or procedures

·         Use industry standard analysis techniques to uncover client requirements such as data flow modeling, use-case analysis, workflow analysis, functional decomposition analysis, data modeling, and object modeling

·         Document the results of analysis activities using the appropriate templates or analysis tools

·         Use prototyping, where possible, to solidify client requirements (in conjunction with the Architects and Business Application Developers)

·         Adhere to process guidelines and standards

·         Conduct and analyze preliminary business and information technology processes and prepare groundwork

·         Make recommendations for necessary changes on projects that come in from other departments

·         Create, modify and maintain, and schedule procedures and reports using various report-writing tools

·         Identify and offer solutions for areas of potential business risk

·         Account Management of user communities to include the following:

§         Participate in operational meetings, provide written communication to IT management on items such as critical operational issues, opportunities for IT to support the business; cross business area process issues

§         Schedule regular meetings (to be determined) with senior management to provide updates on IT activities; get feedback/direction on IT support, establish metrics for measuring the IT value proposition; earn a place at the strategic table

§         Escalate as needed, issues that are not being resolved quickly enough

§         Confer with user community to analyze current operational procedures, identify problems, and learn specific input and output requirements, such as forms of data input, how data is to be summarized, and formats for reports or screen

 

Working Relationships:

Internal:

·        Interacts with Systems Development teams and related business units to devise systems that achieve business objectives

·        Manages small project teams consisting of application programmers and business analysts

External:

·         Maintains relationships with vendors, consultants or contractors, and professional organizations to maintain professional and technical knowledge of software and systems

 

Skills and Knowledge:

·        Must be able to work with others as a part of a team.

·        Must be able to delegate and coordinate tasks to ensure project completion.

·        Organizational skills are critical to success in this position.

·        Experience working with various reporting systems

·        IT experience, particularly with software development, is important to this role

·        Knowledge of accounting and finance principles and terms is important.

·         Knowledge and experience in gathering requirements, functional design, and working with business processes

·         In-depth knowledge of current and industry business models

·         Ability to develop low-tech prototypes

·         Must be systems-oriented, enjoy working with new tools, and be a self-motivated learner

 

Experience:

·        Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related field preferred; MBA a plus

·        2-4 years of general business analysis experience required or 4-6 years working in management or IT liaison positions with customer’s business unit(s)

·         Excellent interpersonal, oral/written communication, and organizational skills

·         IT project management experience a plus. 

·      Previous development experience a plus.
