Payroll Supervisor


POSITION SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Payroll Supervisor is responsible for leading the team that processes the payroll for all North American employees. You will also be responsible for: collaborating and partnering with 3rd party vendors, coordinating all activities and relationships with accounting, auditors and tax authorities, training and managing the activities of the payroll staff, continuous improvement of payroll processes and services, and payroll tax compliance. 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Supervises the preparation of the bi-weekly payrolls for salaried employees and the weekly payrolls for union and non-union hourly associates in an accurate and timely manner.

- Supervises payroll staff; setting goals, managing performance, providing coaching and development.
- Reconciles the payroll system with the General Ledger and completes the weekly close and interface.

- Maintains internal controls to ensure the integrity of the Payroll/HR system (Workday)

- Works closely with the Human Resources team to ensure coordination and accuracy of all benefit/pension deductions and Vacation balances

- Audits work of payroll staff and vendors on an ongoing basis.
- Submits all government and other remittances; prepares various reports and records for the reconciliation of payroll with the general ledger.

- Responds to inquiries from all employees regarding deductions, payments, allowances or discrepancies in pay.

- Ensures that the reconciliation, remittance and reporting for state and federal tax is completed in accordance with the government deadlines. 

- Ensures that the annual reconciliation for all tax and government reporting is completed and filed in accordance with legislative guidelines.
- Manages the issuance if the annual W2s and any other payroll related forms for income tax.

- Collaborates with the internal Workday HRIS team to provide support to HCM-Payroll system users and manage the effectiveness of an integrated HCM-Payroll platform and processes.

- Coordinates with HRIS team to test and validate HCM-Payroll application updates, organizes resources to support the update process.

- Engages with HR to provide coordinated support to employees for HR and payroll issues under a Shared Service model

 - Serves as a Subject Matter Expert for Payroll projects, providing design insight, developing action plans and managing project milestones. 

- Stays abreast of changes in federal/state legislation affecting payroll.

- Maintains strict confidentiality of data.

Education:
Bachelors degree preferably in a business/finance or accounting discipline. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.  

 

Experience:
- Minimum 3 years in a business operations /finance or HR role- preferably in a CPG or food manufacturing organization.

- 3-5 years of payroll experience, at least 1-2 as a supervisor or manager

Travel
